It’s a new day…

by z.lynn

That song that Jennifer Hudson has been singing in those Weight Watchers commercials is stuck in my head! Mostly because I’ve been away from my business for too long and it’s time to get to work! But also because I feel that I’ve finally gotten my father and personal life stabilized enough that I can return to some semblance of my business at least until I’m back 100%.

“It’s a new dawn, a new day
a new life for me
And I’m feeling good”

“It’s a new day!!”

So thanks, JHud!

#9 – All Things Bridal – Check ’em Out

by z.lynn

Planning a wedding is probably one of the few times where you will have to deal with various vendors to ensure that the event is a success. You may have to utilize a caterer, a venue, a seamstress, a wedding planner, a DJ, etc. Prevent potential frustrations by:

  • asking friends for referrals to reputable vendors
  • asking the vendor for referrals from previous clients
  • ask yourself – Are they late to your appointments? Do they return your calls when promised? Do they have a professional appearance? Could you see yourself befriending this person? (Yes OR No will be an appropriate response, depending on the nature of the relationship you foster with them)
  • check them out: BBB

If they are new in business, and you feel comfortable working with them, it is still be a good idea to:

  • ask if you can watch them work
  • observe how they treat other people
  • talk to their employees or other associates

A wedding can be a stressful time, help yourself eliminate some of that stress by carefully selecting your vendors.

Check them out, before you sign!

See ya next time!

tuesday’s tip…communication!

by z.lynn

Effective communication within a relationship is essential.

I was fortunate enough to marry a wonderful man in the fall of 2009. I love him dearly and we have wonderful times since we have a lot in common. However, no matter how much we have in common, there will always be differences between us. I can’t stand that he leaves the toilet seat up or that his idea of cleaning is throwing bleach everywhere and letting it work its ‘magic’. Ugghhhh!! SMH!

The differences between you and your spouse may take many different forms. It may be something as simple as whether or not the toilet paper goes over or under on the roll (over, right??). However, that difference could make you and your spouse like polar opposites when it comes to how you spend and save money, for example. Either one of those differences can cause frustration, stress and major arguments.

The only one ‘easier-said-than-done’ way to handle these differences is to communicate, effectively. Communicate with each other –ย  not mommy or daddy or coworker or friend about what your spouse is not doing. And this communication should begin as soon as you start dating. Major things like whether or not to have children or your view of money must be discussed before you say “I DO”.

Dating? Newly engaged? Wedding date set? It’s never too late to start communicating effectively to ensure the longevity of your marriage.

by z.lynn

JOL series – 02 – new beginnings; i was able to catch these next ones just as the sun started to set. i’m in love with the result.

project 365 – today’s photo

just threw this one in. just because. this was dinner tonight, my own creation – balsamic marinated ribeye steak strips in a blue cheese cream sauce. it really hit the spot, i needed some comfort food.

next stop…the leaners.

by z.lynn

i was in search of a busted sign today. i’m sure you’ve all witnessed this craziness before. no matter whether its misspelled, broken or just plain doesn’t make sense – it just makes me laugh a bit inside. my simple moments of silly. here is one such example:

so i figured it would be appropriate to give the building a shot true to its’ name – leaners.

have fun and enjoy.

getting my life together

by z.lynn

about two weeks ago, i told you about my efforts to organize myself. well, here are the latest advancements in that effort. drum roll, please…

it’s my handy, dandy notebook (nod to Blue’s Clues :-D; sidebar – it’s amazing how much of those shows i remember since my baby is now nine years old! i remember taking her to the movies and dreading the impending bathroom break because I was enjoying the movie and didn’t want to miss a moment! LOL)

this is a cute little Franklin Covey planner with cute little tabs and dividers and sections and notepads and pages all under a cute little cover with binder rings so that i can add my own papers. i’m excited about using it! feeling kinda intimidated but feel it’s necessary to “get my life together”.

Yea for me!!

at the same time, though, i’m feeling kinda bummed because i put a few offers ‘out there’ to do professional work and i didn’t hear back from some of them. growing up, my dad used to tell me that “no news is good news.” i really don’t think that applies to this case. LOL.

i also got a ‘no’ reply. the no’s are stepping-stones to the yes’, but a no is still a no. being a glass half full kind of girl with rose-colored glasses, a ‘no’ is seems almost unfathomable.

in sales, they tell you that you must expect the no’s and that the no/yes dynamic is a numbers game, so i have to increase my numbers and allow each ‘no’ take me closer to the next ‘yes’. i must also keep in mind that this is a business and treating it as such, i must continue to play in order to succeed. if i allow the no’s to stop me short of my goal or allow them to take my head out of the game, then i lose and won’t get to where i want to be.

[rolling up sleeves]

let the hard work begin!

i think i can, i think i can, i think i can…

by z.lynn

my least favorite household maintenance activity is the laundry. i will do anything before i do the laundry. for me, it takes a lot of time to wash, dry, iron and fold several loads. maybe it takes me so long because i don’t derive any enjoyment from it. i’m not sure. but like the little engine that could, i will keep on going and do what i gotta do!๐Ÿ™‚

365 project or bust!

by z.lynn

according to the project’s website,”The 365 project is a photography project where you document a year of your life by taking a daily photo…All you need is a camera.”

this project typically begins on the first day of the new year, so yes, i’m totally late in starting this project. see, what had happened was…i procrastinated…there i said it! I often just jump feet first into whatever I’m doing without any forethought. and am just like, ‘come what may – bring it on. i can handle whatever!’ that philosophy, however, shouldn’t be applied to everything as it won’t always work outย  i.e. marriage, having children, etc.

so in trying a different approach to organization and planning in my life, i decided to plan this project. i planned to do this but i didn’t get started. go figure. so this is one of those things that i could have jumped foot first into. well, they always say that ‘hindsight is 20/20’.

so i’m figuring…why not start at anytime? the goal is to document one day at a time for 365 consecutive days, to improve your photography skills, to commit and follow through on such a project. it doesn’t really matter when i start, just as long as i finish, riiight?. so, that said, my 365 project will commence today and continue through until february 20, 2012.

of course, if i want to begin again next year on time, with everyone else, i will have to start the 2012 project on 01/01. but i will still have the 2011 project going on until it’s completion on 02/20/12. so i will probably have to provide 2 pics a day, technically. or would one pic suffice for both projects. but since they’re different they’d probably need different photos. aye, aye, aye!

oh, whatever, i’ll cross that bridge when i get there…for now, my 2011 project is underway! stay tuned, i’m gonna pull a picture out of my hat…
