the sunset

by z.lynn

the sun winks at me from behind the old tree. her golden fingers caress my skin and brighten my path. she says, ‘i’ll be back tomorrow, my friend.’ i say, ‘can’t you stay awhile longer?’ she shakes her head, ‘no’. then her arms envelop the nearby signpost and quickly move past the stop sign. she replies, ‘remember, starting today, we have more time together. so, don’t worry. tomorrow will be longer than it seems.’ as she disappeared into the horizon, the chill in the air reminds me that this cycle of balance is necessary. i, however, if given the choice, prefer the warm, loving touch of the sun.
